A mob led by senior Shiv Sena leader Tukaram Kate ransacked the MCGM hydraulic engineer’s office. Claiming that the hydraulic department was deliberately denying water to residents of the Panjrapole area near Anushakti Nagar, the mob went on the rampage. They broke wooden furniture inside the office and broke a few glasses. Hydrualic engineer Dineshchandra Gondalia was present in the office when the incident occurred. He later filed a complaint at the Azad Maidan police station. Kate’s wife Mangala, a sitting Sena corporator from the Ghatla village in the Chembur municipal ward, too was part of the mob. Kate, his wife, and 14 others were arrested and charged with rioting, police said. All have been released on bail. Strangely, Kate’s outburst was for water shortage in areas that are represented by another Sena corporator, Rahul Shewale, who is known to be Kate’s arch rival. Kate contended that drinking water was not being supplied to more than 3,000 people living in colonies at Gautam Nagar, Bhim Nagar, Shiv Shankar Nagar, and Bhimwadi in Panjrapole. Shewale, however, had a different take on the matter. The civic body, based on his representation, had started work on improving the water supply to these areas, Shewale said.
