Shiv Sena Executive president Uddhav Thackeray laid the foundation stone for ‘Amar Jawanjyot’, a memorial of two heroes of 1857 war, that would come in front of the MCGM HQ. To commemorate the contribution of Mangal Gadiya and Sayed Hussain, who were gunned down by Britishers near the Azad Maidan during the war, the memorial is being built on a 400 sq meters. This memorial is being built with the aim of inspiring the Mumbaikars, we should join hands together to fight terrorism in the state. The bhumipujan was done at the hands of Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackarey. Mangal Gadiya and Sayed Hussain, the two heroes had in reality launched the struggle for independence of India in the year 1857. Both the Hindus and Muslim had jointly fought for the independence of the country and they never brought religion in their mind at that time. But, now ironically Maharashtra had become number one state in the list of communal riot-hit states in the country and the officials are hoping that this memorial will rekindle brotherhood and unity amongst the people.
