Many eyebrows were raised when the Shiv Sena that sits as opposition in NMMC demanded that the new auditorium planned in NMMC be named after Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik’s late mother Subhadrabai Naik. While the Shiv Sena says that she was a Shiv Sainik at heart and gave capable leaders to Sena in the form of her sons, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik says that the project has a long way to go before discussions of name come on the table. The Shiv Sena might leave no stones unturned or issue spared when it comes to attacking the NCP, but there one subject on which they have set aside the role of the opposition and the subject is a sensitive one. The Shiv Sena wants the auditorium being planned in Airoli to be named after Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik’s late mother Subhadrabai Naik. The demand was put forth by NMMC Opposition Leader Manoj Haldankar in the last general body meeting. Speaking to NMTV News, Opposition Leader Manoj Haldankar reiterated their reasons for proposing late Subhadrabai Naik’s name for the proposed auditorium in Airoli. Manoj Haldankar added that late Subhadrabai Naik was a Shiv Sainik at heart who directly or indirectly played a significant role in Sena’s growth in the region. She was a mother figure for all Shiv Sainiks and taught the city’s leader Ganesh Naik about the party from childhood itself. The Shiv Sena that sits as opposition in NMMC maintains that while Ganesh Naik might not be in Shiv Sena now but no one can change the political history of the city and that is why Shiv Sainiks have deep regards, affection and love for Subhadrabai Naik. When questioned on the sensitive stand taken by Shiv Sena on the matter, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik said that he would not comment on the sentiments of the opposition but did point out that there is a long way to go on the proposed auditorium project. He did point out that once that happens they would discuss the naming of the auditorium with some “good” people in the city and then decide the name. While it remains to be seen who is the much-awaited auditorium of Airoli named after but the opposition’s proposal does speak in volumes of great love and respect for Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik’s late mother from across citizens and political parties in Navi Mumbai.
