SHANTIVAN’S ANNUAL MITRA MELAVA VOICE CONCERN OVER THE DYING MORALS AND VALUES IN SOCIETY

Noted social workers of the state graced the annual mitra melava of Shantivan at Panvel and made it a pilgrimage for all the visitors who arrived to celebrate the annual get together of the center. With no political colors attached, the presence of all the noted social workers of the state at Shantivan made the occasion nothing less than a pilgrimage for every visitor. The addressal by all the dignitaries brought to light how morals and values are becoming totally lost is very concerning for the nation. The event saw the participation of Justice Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari, the President of the Kushtrog Nivaran Samiti of Panvel, Dr. Rani Bang. Not many know that Dr. Rani Bang and her husband Dr. Abhay Bang are a team of doctors making a difference in helping reduce the country’s infant and maternal mortality ratios. Dr. Abhay Bang and Dr. Rani Bang lead the Society of Education, Action and Research in Community Health (SEARCH) in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. Government of Maharashtra awarded them “Maharashtra Bhushan’. Also present on the occasion were Vijay Kuvlekar and Ram Kapse. Shantivan Houses the center for leprosy treatment and rehabilitation, a home and care center for the aged, polytechnic school, Ashram Shala, Raj Awareness Center, Agro farms and an ultra modern cowshed. Dr. Rani Bang taunted the government schemes and said that the schemes and plans of the government are planned in Geneva and New York and the public welfare schemes are run according to the guidelines of World Bank and WHO. She said that corruption and liquor are like curses to the nation and it’s progress. Vijay Kuvlekar spoke about the issues concerning the youth, with western influence being the most serious one. He said that this was one of the reasons why despite education reaching new heights, there is still a lot of potential of the youth that cannot be tapped. Justice Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari said that today those who work for the poor are given the title of naxalites. He said that today each one is interested in their personal progress and benefits and there is no one to come for those in need. He said that not the once who rise after pain is inflicted on them but those who rise when pain is inflicted on others have the power to bring about revolution.
