shillogD Y Patil University in Nerul held a musical recital on the eve of Republic Day with the theme of peace and harmony by the Shillong Chamber Choir. The night was made musical with contemporary Hindi Music, Western, Classical, Carols and Rabla Recital by Ustad Vasi Ahmed Khan. But what made the night special was the spell bounding performance by world renowned Shillong Chamber Choir. D Y Patil University in Nerul held a musical night at its auditorium on the eve of Republic Day with the theme of peace and harmony by the Shillong Chamber Choir. Many dignitaries graced this event which included the Chancellor of D Y Patil Vijay Patil, Vice Admiral Pradeep Chauhan, Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Vice Chancellor James Thomas and others. There were many performances lined up for the night which included the musical performance called “Scribble Pad” by Band by Rolin’s. The evening also had tabla recital by Ustaad Wasi Ahmed Khan and his troop who played some melodious classical Indian music to the beats of the drums and the tablas. A sweet performance was also given by a little girl called Ananya Kurup who has many achievements and accolades to her credit. Then came the main performance for which the jam packed auditorium was waiting for. The performance of the Shillong Chamber Choir – Shillong Chamber Choir was formed in the year 2001 by a group of singers who wished to come together to produce a variety of music, rather than being limited to only one kind. The Shillong Chamber Choir preferred versatility and variety and thus the group of 25 soloists made their first debut performance with Neil Nongkynrih their maestro and mentor. At the D Y Patil auditorium too, the choir did not fail to spread its magic on the audience. The choir began with a melodious song dedicated to mothers. Known for their multi genre mix, the choir then sang a song in praise of the lord. And then came the famous mixture of Bollywood music that got them victory in India’s Got Talent Show Season II and got a chance to perform at the Rashrapati Bhavan during US President Barrack Pbama’s visit. NMTV News caught up with the mentor of the choir, Neil Nongkynrih who spoke on his choir.
