Shiv Sena corporators in MCGM wore a black band in the protest of the Center’s affidavit that has stated that Maharashtra was not making a justified claim for 814 villages on the grounds that majority in these villages spoke Marathi. An issue that has raised temperatures of Shiv Sena and BJP corporators is the central government’s stance on the boundary dispute between Maharashtra and Karnataka. It has termed as “unjustified”; Maharashtra’s claim of 814 villages with a majority Marathi-speaking population in the Karnataka districts of Belgaum, Bidar, Gulbarga and Karwar. They members submitted a letter of protest to the Mayor who will forward it to the Prime Minister’s Office. The fact the Congress led UPA has sent the affidavit to the Supreme Court has put Congress corporators in the MCGM on the back foot who do not want any such controversy to affect the chances of the Congress in the soon to be MCGM Elections. The Congress’s Opposition Leader defended their stance and said an affidavit is not a final verdict on the issue. With cameraperson Deepak Kamble, Hansraj Kanojia for NMTV News.
