Navi Mumbai lost out in the race of top 20 cities selected for Smart City due to NCP’s rejection of the same proposal in the NMMC General Body meeting. Venting out their ire and blaming NCP for this, the Shiv Sena led by Opposition Leader Vijay Chougule protested the stance of NCP during the last meeting. This led to a faceoff and war of words between both sides. Vijay Chougule brought to the attention of the house that NMMC got 0 out of 30 marks because the general body rejected the proposal.
Shiv Sena corporator Kishore Patkar said that NCP’s stand of the smart city proposal is against the interest of citizens and Navi Mumbai. The Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare brought on record that because NCP rejected the proposal, it was a loss for Navi Mumbai. Mayor Sudhakar Sonawane, who has received the orders directly from their leader Ganesh Naik, did not budge for their stand and sent back the proposal.
This led to Shiv Sena gheraoing the Mayor and Secretary Chitra Bhaviskar in protest but to no avail. Speaking to NMTV, Vijay Chougule said that NCP does not want the smart city credit to go to Mayor Sudhakar Sonawane and NMMC Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare. He also demanded action against NMMC Secretary Chitra Bhaviskar.
