And as was expected, small incidents that created tension were reported from Airoli. At one place, there seemed to be a face off between Ganesh Naik and Vijay Chougule. The Navi Mumbai Police handled the situation exceptionally well. As was expected, things at Chinchpada and some sensitive areas of Airoli were tensed on and off throughout the day. Of the early reports one came from Chinchpada where two groups of youth, reportedly one of the NCP and one Shiv Sena clashed. As soon as Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik heard of the incident, arrived at Chinchpada and heard the pleas of the youth. As Ganesh Naik started taking a brief of the situation from the police, Vijay Chougule arrived at the same spot. The face off between Ganesh Naik and Vijay Chougule evidently led to a tense atmosphere with ACP Karad personally ensuring that the situation was kept under control. Later as both the groups backed off, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik stayed in Chinchpada and Airoli for a couple of hours to personally view the situation on voting day. The manner, in which the police handled the situation with ACP Karad at the forefront, is definitely praiseworthy. The ACP informed the media the number of police that were duty at Airoli and the measures taken by them to ensure law and order prevailed in Airoli. He added that since the police had conducted massive and intense drills, the message given was clear that violators would be dealt with strictly. From Airoli, Arvind Mane for NMTV News.
