cricket1For the first time in Navi Mumbai, referee class theoretical knowledge on football game will be imparted by Bombay Referee Association along with Navi Mumbai Sports association. The theoretical training would include the football trainers and also national level football players. The lectures would be conducted by the members of All India Football association. The aim behind conducting the training is to widen the scope of sports in the city and to provide more experienced and learned referee for the competitions. The training would also provide deep knowledge to the players about the rules and regulations of the game, which is not known by everyone. 54TH LATE SHAMRAO THOSAR CRICKET TOURNAMENT HELD Under the auspices of the Mumbai Cricket Association, the 54th Late Shamrao Thosar cricket tournament 2009 is all set to begin at NMSA from the 1st of November. Last year, 45 cricket teams had participated in the tournament. Teams of Navi Mumbai coming under the umbrella of NMSA had made it to the quarter finals. These teams included members of Avinash Salvi foundation, Mazgaon Sports Club and Dr D Y Patil Sports Academy. Players playing this time voiced confidence to win the tournament as they have been practicing vigorously not missing sessions even during the off season months of monsoon. We also spoke to the sports manager of NMSA about the tournament. He also stated that their aim is to train players to play for the Ranji trophy in the future. NAVI MUMBAI HIGH SCHOOL UNDER 19 GIRLS CRICKET TEAM DEFEATS ICL JUNIOR COLLEGE GIRLS Navi Mumbai high school girls defeated ICL junior college girls in C K Naidu District level cricket competition, which was held last month at Rajeev Gandhi Stadium at CBD Belapur. These winning girls’ team is now gearing up for zonal level competition, which will be held next month.
