State approves BMC plea for addl plot for garbage processing

The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority has approved the plea submitted by BMC to acquire an additional 52.5 hectares at Kanjurmarg in order to carry out processing facility for solid waste.

Since the area falls under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) III, the approval was mandatory. The MCZMA’s decision to allow the use of the site albeit with conditions comes as a major relief to the civic body, which is struggling to create an alternative processing facility for the city’s 9,000 metric tonnes of daily waste and another 3,000 metric tonnes of debris.
