State approves huge hike in monthly salary of the corporators in municipal corporations

When citizens of Mumbai are paying more after GST, BMC corporators will enjoy a whopping salary hike of 150%. This comes after the long-pending demand of salary hike of the corporators was finally approved by the state government.

Samajwadi Party corporator Rais Shaikh, who was the first to demand a salary hike on behalf of all his 227 colleagues, though welcomed the decision, said he had asked for more. “Though I demanded that the corporators’ monthly salary be hiked from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 50,000, the government increased it Rs. 25,000. If we are paid less, then no educated person will contest the civic elections,” Shaikh claimed. However, Mumbai Mahanagarpalika Karmachari Mahasangh chairmain Prakash Devadas said the government should respond quickly for workers too in the same manner.

The state government has approved a huge hike in the monthly honorariums of the corporators in the 27 municipal corporations across the state. While the corporators of the BMC got a 150% hike in their montly payout, the corporators from the C and D category (Navi Mumbai, Kalyan -Dombivili, Aurangabad and VasaiVirar ) will see a hike of 33% in the salaries, the corporator’s salary in these corporation have been increased to Rs 10,000 from Rs 7500.

A notification was issued by the urban development department on Saturday , in which the hike in honorarium has been given on the basis of classification of the corporations.
