With state assembly polls less than three months away, the Election Commission of India has asked the state election branch to get the photographs of at least 90% of the voters for the final electoral roll, which will be published on August 27. On the preparations for the state assembly polls, the Election Commission officials said the draft electoral register for 30 districts was published on July 7; for the remaining five districts-Mumbai, suburban Mumbai, Thane, Pune and Nagpur-it will be made public on July 14. The final electoral register will be made public on August 27. On target of securing photographs, the official said the performance of Gondia – the home town of civil aviation minister Praful Patel, Kolhapur and Latur – the home town of former CM Vilasrao Deshmukh, had been the best so far, with 80% coverage. There are a total of 288 state assembly seats with voters population of 7.28 crore. Out of these voters with photo in electoral roll is only 4.75 crore. Bureau report NMTV News.
