STATE GOVERNMENT DIRECTS ALLOWANCE FOR AUTOPSY TEAMS IN MAHARASHTRA

The state government has passed a directive to have allowances of Rs.130 per body to autopsy teams, which in the long run will also help in curbing corruption. With the initiative of one police surgeon, S.M Patil, that heads four out of seven post mortem centres in the city, the state government passed a directive that apart from the regular salaries, the autopsy teams should also be given a minimum allowance per dead body. Since each centre in the city gets approximately 90 bodies, this will not only satisfy the staffers but will also curb corruption in the long run. The directive is also in use in others states like Goa, West Bengal and Karnataka. The police surgeon also stated that these allowances would in turn provide quality work from the doctors and the staffers who would also be made more accountable. Many doctors at post mortem centers are welcoming the idea.
