STATE MAY HIKE FSI FOR DHARAVI RE-DEVELOPMENT TO 4 PLUS

The state government is considering hiking the floor space index (FSI) for the redevelopment of Dharavi to above 4. Chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh have recently announced that the size of flats given to slumdwellers under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme would be increased to 269 sq ft from 225 sq ft, in line with the national policy on housing. Following this decision, the state’s urban development department has hiked the FSI for SRA schemes to 3 from 2.5, to balance the increase in carpet area. In high-density areas, where more than 650 families live per acre, the FSI can be hiked to 4 if such a demand is made.
