The state government has decided to enable people to apply for birth certificates, pay property tax, seek license renewal and lodge complaints with government departments online. A recent circular to all departments has asked all government departments to identify services to be provided online in two years. The state government’s e-vision document will detail the services to be provided online and the method of doing so. The State IT department would work on providing a software solution depending on the response of the departments. If the plan goes as envisaged, citizens would be able to log on to the internet or visit the citizens service centre to get documents like birth certificates, renew licences, pay property tax bills, lodge complaints with government departments and submit various documents online. This would also do away with the need for citizens to visit government offices for their work and thus bring down corruption, as people’s direct interaction with officials would be brought down. It would be easier to track complaints and the progress made in any case online. Bureau report – NMTV News.
