The Maharshtra Government told the Bombay High Court that it plans to demolish all the illegal structures in Thane by May next year. By government’s own estimate, there are some 4, 95, 000 unauthorized structures in Thane district. At an earlier hearing, court had sought a timetable of demolition. In the last hearing, State Chief Secretary J N Dange has stated that demolition of commercial structures would be over by September 30, but action against residential structures would be started only in October, after the monsoon. Though not mentioned in the affidavit, the government pleader told the High Court that entire drive is expected to be over by May next year. The court did not pass any order today, but has sought progress report on demolition issue in three weeks. Bureau report – NMTV News.
