State sanctions appointment of 1200 staff for the NMMC health department

In what is a first , the state government has sanctioned appointment of 1200 staff for the NMMC health department including doctors, lab technicians, housekeeping staff for the three upcoming NMMC hospitals—general hospitals at Airoli and Nerul and Belapur child and mother care.

The issue of sanction of posts in general for various departments was pending for a long time. BJP MLA, Manda Mhatre said she met the CM several times as proper sanctioning of posts was pending for over two decades. The civic body got constituted in 1992.
NMMC commissioner, D T Waghmare said, “we are awaiting a formal letter of approval after which we will give the appointment letters. The total expense including other expenses and salary component would be around Rs 92 crore.” The expense is part of the current fiscal budget.
Medical superintendent of NMMC general hospital, Vashi, P Jawade said, “the issue of sanctions of posts were pending probably since the civic body got constituted following which there was always a requirement, so used to get it sanctioned from NMMC and appoint on contract. The proper sanctioning of the posts now will help efficient running of the hospitals.”
