STATE WANTS NAVI MUMBAI AIRPORT KEPT OFF CMZ RULES

nm-airport-1The Maharashtra government has decided to request the Union government to exempt Mumbai’s second international airport project from the proposed Coastal Management Zone (CMZ) regulations. The state Cabinet resolved to move the Centre to make a special case for this greenfield project, which has been proposed over 2,000 hectares of land in the coastal belt near Navi Mumbai. A government spokesperson has stated that the Centre will need to issue a special notification exempting the project from CMZ rules. The Cabinet has decided to authorize CIDCO board of directors to form a special purpose vehicle with a strategic private sector partner for the project and hold a stake in the greenfield project.
