SUDHAKAR SONAWANE ALLEGES DELIBERATE DELAY IN CONSTRUCTION OF DR BABASAHEB AMBEDKAR MEMORIAL IN THE CITY

Sonawane-1Corporator Sudhakar Sonawane lashed out at the municipal administration during question hour of the monthly NMMC General Body Meeting alleging that deliberate delay in the implementation of the proposed Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial project in the city. NMTV News spoke to the Commissioner on the subject for an insight. When Corporator Sudhakar Sonawane lashed out at the municipal administration during the monthly NMMC General Body Meeting alleging that there was deliberate delay in the implementation of the proposed Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial project in the city, the Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nahata replied that carving out of 5750 sq mt. land from a public play ground of 11626 sq mts in sector 15, Airoli needed the sanction of the Urban Development Ministry, which was sought on October 18, 2008. He assured to execute the project soon after the said sanction. Later the Commissioner reiterated the same in an interview with NMTV News. Corporator Sudhakar Sonawane had even expressed that inspite of an allocation of rupees 2 crores in the budget and the state social welfare minister Chandrakant Handore offering rupees 10 crores for the project under the “Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial in every district project” scheme, there was no justification in delaying this project ofz National significance and sanctity. Corporator Sudhakar Sonawane had even reprimanded NMMC administration’s move to construct the memorial on a playground when several other sites could have been opted for. However, when we put forth the same question to NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata, he said that the remark was a casual one and that work on the project would be expedited soon. He further alleged that NMMC had changed use of several properties in the city without state permission and hence the present sanction being sought was a deliberate move to delay the project.
