Guess who’s left out of the reconstituted NCP working committee? Ajit Pawar. And who’s inducted? Supriya Sule. Sharad Pawar’s decision seems to be giving out clear indications of who will be Sharad Pawar’s successor. The list of members of the reconstituted NCP working committee has sprung a surprise: Sharad Pawar’s nephew Ajit is missing while Supriya Sule, his MP daughter, is in. Ajit Pawar, a senior state minister, is one of the key figures in the party’s western Maharashtra bastion. Supriya Sule’s rise within the party hierarchy is being seen as Pawar’s decision about the succession issue in the NCP. After the assembly polls, Ajit Pawar had opposed Sharad Pawar’s choice of Chhagan Bhujbal for the deputy CM’s post. Though he relented, many feel that he remains unhappy. As a balancing act, Agatha Sangma, Union minister and party veteran P A Sangma’s daughter, has been included in the panel. In fact, it is a rare instance of two senior leaders and their politician daughters finding place in the highest policy-making body of a national party. Supriya Sule’s ascent and Ajit’s absence seem to be a clear pointer on Sharad Pawar clan equations. But the NCP party denies it and says that Ajit Pawar was left out due to his pre-occupation with state politics. With bureau inputs, Sana Warsia for NMTV News.
