SUPREME COURT GIVES ITS NOD TO MOBILE VANS PARKED ON MUMBAI ROADS

mobiie-van-1In a major relief for advertisers, who use mobile vans to promote their products, the Supreme Court allowed mobile hoarding vans to be parked along Mumbai’s roads. Quashing an order passed by the Bombay High Court, which had restrained advertisers from using mobile hoarding vans stating that they obstructed traffic, the SC held that the authorities under the Motor Vehicles Act alone are empowered to check the obstruction in traffic caused by such hoardings. The HC had restrained mobile hoarding vans from being parked on main roads and carriageways. The court had asked if mobile hoarding vans could be granted such permissions and licences. The SC said the authorities had allowed the mobile van in accordance with legal provisions.
