SUPREME COURT ORDER MAY RESULT IN NMMC LOSING RS. 54 CRORES COLLECTED AS TAXES FROM TTC MIDC INDUSTRIES

The Supreme Court has ordered the High Court to reconsider the writ petition of the TTC MIDC industries in context to NMMC collecting taxes from them. The Small Scale Entrepreneurs Association called for a press conference to inform the media about the recent Supreme Court order that has instructed the High Court to reconsider the case of the TTC MIDC industries in context to paying taxes to NMMC. Speaking about the same – Paresh Mehta – a Managing Committee member of SSEA said that BYTE We spoke to other members of SSEA N Gopi and Churi Khosla about the SC order that has elated the industrialists. Apart from this, the industrialists are also hoping the formation of an Industrial Township soon. It may be recalled that a couple of months back, the Urban Development Ministry have sent a letter to NMMC that the NOC from NMMC might just not be needed to give the TTC MIDC area the status of an industrial township. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation presently collects revenue of Rs. 54 Crores from industries in the MIDC TTC Belt as taxes. Hence, out of the total collection of cess and property tax that NMMC collects from its jurisdiction, 60% of the collection comes from the industries in the MIDC TTC belt. It is very well known that one of the main reasons that the TTC MIDC area was not being given the status of a Industrial Township was because of the political muscle that came in between. However, now with Anil Ambani’s Reliance Infocomm on one side and Mukesh Ambani’s Life Science Center on the other, financial power seems to be winning over the political muscle power If this happens then 3,500 industrial units worth Rs 15,000 crore will be freed from legal red tapism. If this happens, NMMC will become helpless spectators even as the TTC MIDC area will be declared an Industrial Township very under the Center’s Industrial Town Ship Act. This might also boost the employment opportunities for skilled workers without any political interference and infuse life into the once known Golden Belt of Asia !
