SURVIVAL BECOMES TOUGHER FOR THE POOR – RUNNING RATION SHOPS START RUNNING SHORT OF FOODGRAINS

Ration-2Fair price shops in the city are not well stocked up to curb the inflationary trends. Even though the state government had promised adequate supply of rice, pulses and edible oil in the ration shops, there is likely to be no sign of it for at least one and a half months. Shopkeepers have been complaining about the insufficient supply for several months now, even as the state government has passed the buck to the Centre for the delay in the supply. Supply to the ration shops come from the godowns of Food Corporation of India. Even the poor people stand in long queues for hours so that they can buy ration for their household but the inadequate supply forces them to go home empty-handed. We also spoke with the rationing officer who stated that if the centre did not provide them with adequate supply of foodgrains for their registered cardholders what could they do. BYTE Unfortunately, leaders are seen giving false assurances at the time of election about various needs of life but not often are they fulfilled.
