For the first time ever in Navi Mumbai, a grand festival of Taekwondo is being held. Comprising of workshops by international masters to the ultimate championship, the festival is all what an aspiring Taekwondo player can dream off. The 9th of January was a day to remember at the D Y Patil stadium in Nerul. It was a day of fun and excitement that awaited the students, Taekwondo enthusiasts and players where the inaugural ceremony of the JSRTC Open Taekwondo Games ’09 was being held. For the first time ever in India, a mega event in the field of Taekwondo sport was seen which will go on till January 11, 2009. Grand Master Ahn Hak-Sun, head of K-Tigers, the world’s best Taekwondo demonstration team, is in the satellite city to promote the Korean Martial Art and Olympic Sport in the country. The inaugural ceremony saw the presence of Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, Vidyavachaspati Shankar Abhyankar, who was present as the guest of honour, Mayor Anjani Bhoir, NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata, Vijay Patil President of Dr. D Y Patil Sports Academy amongst other dignitaries. The guests present shared their experience with us. JSRTC students as well as the K Tigers team displayed some excellent flips and jumps which received great applause from the audience. Taekwondo is the national sport of South Korea which has increasingly gained acceptance worldwide. Many Indian schools and universities have extended support to promote Taekwondo in a big way across the country.
