The anti encroachment department of the Thane Municipal Corporation is engaged in a major drive to remove illegal hoardings from the city and suburbs. The drive has, however, met with stiff resistance from the politicians and communities whose signs are being taken off the important public spaces. TMC has removed seven major illegal hoardings. All of these hoardings belonged to politicians and were put up on the pretext of giving compliments for religious festivals or birthdays. The political signs were put up several months ago and that too at prime public spots that could have earned lakhs to rupee to the TMC had legal hoardings been put up there. Heated exchange however was witnessed by the Matang Community when TMC anti encroachment dept removed a birthday anniversary hoarding of Lokshaheer Annabhau Sathe. Later with assurances given by Mayor Smita Indulkar of positioning 50 hoardings in memory of Annabhau Sathe prompted the people to take back the agitation. From Thane, Manoj Singh for NMTV news.
