jetty2While there was much fan fair about the inauguration of the much-awaited jetty constructed at Diwale village at the hands of Environment Minister Ganesh Naik, the dream was not to be. The ribbon remained uncut at the ceremonial spot with the minister merely wishing nariyal poornima and raksha bandhan greetings to the Koli community. The much-awaited jetty constructed at Diwale village was to see an inauguration at the hands of Environment Minister Ganesh Naik along with Thane MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik and NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik. Atleast that’s what the banners and hoardings splashed across the city stated. But to the disappointment of the Koli community, Environment Minister Ganesh Naik merely wished Nariyal poornima and Raksha bandhan greetings to the fishermen and made his exit. When we quested him to know why was the jetty not inaugurated, the minister gave a terse reply of “I don’t know” and said that he was invited for the nariyal poornima celebrations only. Speculations are running wild that the jetty was built by allegedly destructing mangroves by local NCP worker J D Koli, which was one of the reasons for the minister not inaugurating the jetty, giving way to a controversy. But why did he allow his name to be printed in banners inviting the Koli community for the inauguration of the jetty, is a million dollar question that only Ganesh Naik can answer. In the end, the jetty all decorated with flowers and laces, remained unceremoniously abandoned and uncut. With cameraperson Abhay Prasad, Sana Warsia for NMTV News.
