It was Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik’s birthday and the leader has a special gift for the city. He inaugurated the much-awaited dream project of the Minister and his younger son MLA Sandeep Naik – the Navi Mumbai Yacht Club. India has never won a medal in sailing or for that matter, in any water sport at the Olympics. One reason for this is that the aspirants in India simply have no easy access to the sport whereas abroad, people not only take to the sport early, but also spend an entire lifetime practicing to establish their supremacy. However, there is good news for Navi Mumbaikars on this front, courtesy Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik. The leader inaugurated the much-awaited “Navi Mumbai Yacht Club” – the dream project of the Minister and his younger son MLA Sandeep Naik at Belapur. All fresh and smiling, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik arrived early morning at the Belapur creek amid a crowd of supporters and well wishers gathered to wish their leader birthday and join the historic moment of seeing the inauguration of Navi Mumbai’s own yacht club. A bunch of colorful balloons tied were left to fly high in the sky to mark the official inauguration of the club. After the inauguration, Ganesh Naik fired away with the boat in the sea with the crowd that had gathered and were looking forward to a ride on the boat with the Minister. Speaking to the media, the Minister shared the experience of being the sailor of the moment. The yacht club has already got sailing boats. The Navi Mumbai Yacht Club will train sailors to achieve international acclaim in the sport. The good news is that Malav Shroff, the only Indian to take part in an Olympic sailing event at Athens 2004 is going to train sailors at the Navi Mumbai Yacht Club. Malav Shroff has led the New York based McKinsey team to help restructure the Royal Yachting Association which is British Sailing’s governing body. The Yacht Club is the first to have been started in the cities of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Raigad and Thane will have four centers in these cities. Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik said that under the leadership of MLA Sandeep Naik, the Navi Mumbai Yacht Club has been started and it will render services to aspiring sailors in the region of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Raigad and Thane. And of course we also asked him about this birthday being special this year with one MP, one MLA, one Mayor and himself a cabinet Minister – all in one family. The Navi Mumbai Yacht Club promises to be one of the reasons that will add to the pride of Navi Mumbai. Perhaps, it’s his birthday but Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik made it special for the city by inaugurating the Navi Mumbai Yacht Club. With cameraperson Satish Garud, Sana Warsia for NMTV News.
