thane-snippets-9KUNBI SENA PROTEST A demonstration was held outside the Thane collector office by the farmers and PAP’s with their various demands. It started from Teen Hath Naka and continued outside the PWD and Thane collector office. Farmers in Thane district have incurred huge losses due to Phyan. Due to improper management of the revenue department, even after 8 days of the calamity, no proper panchnama has been made, accused the farmers. Rice being the main crop of the district, it has suffered damage to a great extent. In such a situation the administration should declare famine and change British laws of compensation. While on the other side in the name of projects, new dams and pipelines are being built up. For these projects, the state is acquiring farmers’ land but these PAP’s say that if this is done, they won’t have any other source of survival. BHAYANDER MORCHA The protest continued A morcha was taken outside the Thane Collector office by the farmers from Uttan and Shire villages and fishermen from Chowk Bunder and Pali Bunder. Due to the non-seasonal rains fishermen lost 13 boats worth Rs. 64 lakh 10 thousand. The morcha was called by the Agri Chowk Fishermen Sarvoday Sahakari Society Ltd and villagers from Uttan demanding immediate compensation for their loss. The fishermen held the dharna under the leadership of MLA Gilbert Mendonza. HOMAGE TO MARTYRS IN THANE A year after the Mumbai terror attack, programs to pay homage to the martyrs continued. At Thane the NCP garlanded Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at Gandhi Udyan and paid homage to the martyrs. The Minority Cell of the NCP Party of Thane city gave out the message that communities should unite to fight terrorism. Students of Holy Cross School in Thane along with Casber Dance Academy paid homage to the martyrs through tree plantation. In order to let people live a healthy life, the tree plantation program was organized with the name grow-green. Thane city Congress Committee too paid homage to the martyrs. Congress Thane City Ppresident Balkrishna Purnekar, Spokesperson Saeen Shinde and Congress party workers were present during the gathering.
