Diwali festivities are in the air beginning with Dhanteras festival. Navi Mumbaites are seen busy shopping for gold, platinum and diamonds to make it a memorable Diwali for them. Our correspondent Abhishek Dutta traveled to some of these jewelry shops in town. Dhanteras is an auspicious Day in the Hindu calendar. During this time, people bring home Goddess Lakshmi to bring prosperity to their homes. Many new designs have been launched to attract more customers. Shops also have souvenirs packed in attractive boxes of statues of different gods and goddesses that are craved out of 24 carat gold. These souveniers are usually gifted as good luck charms during this festival. Gold prices have already risen from the past few weeks to Rs 10300 and are expected to rise higher by the end of this month. Many astrologers and numerologists say that during Dhanteras one should buy platinum along with gold as its naturally white color symbolizes purity, power, wealth and strength making it an ideal companion for people seeking prosperity.
