This report will be music to the ears of city developers and sections cashing on the promises of an international airport for Navi Mumbai. Hinting at the fast developments taking place on this front, CIDCO JMD Deepak Kapoor has announced that the first flight from the Navi Mumbai International Airport will take off in December 2012. Our Managing Editor Zeba Warsia spoke to Deepak Kapoor on the developments. Will it happen or will it not happen ? – that is the question that different sections of the city are betting on as far as the Navi Mumbai International Airport is concerned. There have been much speculations as the project seems to be getting caught in one hurdle after the other – the latest being the environment clearance that it wasn’t getting due to major portions of the land reserved for the airport coming under the CRZ regulations and also because the Gadhi river flows right through the plot. But if the present claims of CIDCO are to be believed then the landlords have managed the Union Environment Ministry on the environment issues atleast. Indication being that the CIDCO Jt. Managing Director has announced that in al its probability the first flight from the Navi Mumbai International Airport will take of in December 2012. He confirmed that the project has also received the environment clearance. So if everything goes as planned, the decade old promises of CIDCO might see the light of the day in 2012 but if the past is anything to go by, it is not done till it is done, more so if one is speaking of CIDCO and its prestigious projects.
