Navi Mumbai witnessed four special days and nights of fun and excitement at CIDCO’s Navi Mumbai Festival. The festival in its inaugural year had all that one can dream of from dance to DJ to classical to Sufi and many cultural performances. CIDCO gave Navi Mumbaikars a very refined beginning to the New Year. The much-awaited festival “CIDCO Navi Mumbai Festival” – that was exclusively telecast on your channel NMTV rocked Navi Mumbaikars with all that it had to offer. From cultural performances by Dr. Shubha Mudgal renowned celebrated poet Mangesh Padgaonkar, Cultural Dance troupe, Indian Fusion dance performances, Fusion presentation of Bharat Natyam and Jazz by Namita Bodaji to inaugural performance by the melodious Sunidhi Chauhan, Roop Kumar and Sonali Rathod, Taufiq Qureshi, Anushka Manchanda and Kavita Seth, CIDCO Navi Mumbai festival had it all and much more. With recession and global economic meltdown which affected every citizen, Navi Mumbai Festival came as a blessing for Navi Mumbaikars. It brought together people and promoted the concept of peace, unity, cleanliness and safety. The festival was a time when people could sit back, enjoy the weekend and let themselves lose to take the most of the treat the city was offering. The inaugural ceremony was held at the CIDCO exhibition ground where the scintillating Sunidhi Chauhan wooed the audience. The festival had exclusively something for the kids like science exhibitions, aero modeling workshop and theatre workshops by none other than theatre artist Nadira and Juhi Babbar who appreciated the attempt made by CIDCO. On the other hand, the festival also had different form of music ranging from ragas by Subha Mudgal to sufi by Kavita Seth to classical by Roop Kumar and Shonali Rathod to rock by Anushka Manchanda and DJ and Bharat jazzam, to Agri Koli geet, to Lavani, offering something to every sect of society. The event also brought renowned Marathi poet Mangesh Padgaonkar and tabla rhythm guru taufiq Qureshi to the city. All the stars were praises of CIDCO and Navi Mumbai. The highlight of the event was however, the Palm Beach Road Marathon which witnessed participation of over 5,500 people from across the city. The athletes not only enjoyed participating in the race, but the theme Run against terrorism was itself good enough for the people to participate. Encouraging the athletes was Deputy Chief Minister Chaggan Bhujbal and the very masculine Sunil Shetty along with yesteryear actor Suresh Oberoi. The closing ceremony of the festival at the D Y Patil stadium was like icing on cake. Students from across 25 schools across the city participated in the march past while those from Apeejay School, Nerul, St. Joseph School Kalamboli, and Mahatma School for Sports and Academics, New Panvel performed mass drills. Following this was an aero modelling show and musical medley on the national integration theme presented by noted music director Sandesh Shandilya. And the man responsible for giving a fine start to the New Year for Navi Mumbaikars was CIDCO’s MD G S Gill under whose guidance, such an extravaganza could be organized. There was no doubt that the city was not just enthralled but witnessed something so grand for the first time and all of them were just praises of CIDCO. All in all, as the CIDCO’s Navi Mumbai festival bid farewell to the city in its first year at the Dr. D Y Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai is already looking forward to the next year of CIDCO’s Navi Mumbai Festival.
