It’s a rare sight to see an old classic parked among a shiny fleet of modern cars. A Vintage Ford 1930, still in pristine condition belongs to the Pandit family, the only kin in the city to have one such historical car. Winner of the best Period costume for the 26th time at the recently concluded Vintage car rally, the car was bought by their father late BM Pandit in the year 1930. Vintage Ford 1930, sits pretty inside the housing society where Pandits reside. Even though it is a common feature for the residents, but for the new comers it is indeed a treat. Bought in the year 1930 for rupees 1100 from Chindwada, Madhya Pradesh, Pandits have been treasuring the car for the last 8 decades. Since 1980, the family has been participating in the Vintage car rally and for the 26th time they have won prize for the best period costume category. The car was brought to Mumbai in the year 1958, when their father got too old to drive it. Over the years the car has been driven all over, through and old roads of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujrat. One of the brothers VB Pandit, who is a mechanical engineer, looks after the maintenance of the car. Also Dr Manohar Pandit, the youngest of all the brothers informed us about the Vintage car rally and how is the experience of driving this old car as compared to the new ones. One of the brothers RB Pandit, informed us that the participation in a Vintage rally was not only about fun but was also a family get together. The only unfortunate part they informed is the monsoon. The car has not been designed for rains, as the water gets accumulated due to absence of roof. Although the expenses for its maintainence are high, the family just pampers it like one of their family member. With Kala Jadhav, Vrushali Chitre for NMTV news.
