Without doing any increment in the taxes, a budget of Rs 1329.47 for financial year 2010-2011 was presented at Thane Municipal Corporation. The budget has special provision for development of women and children as well as for physically challenged people. Thane municipal commissioner Nandkumar Jantre announced and handed over the budget for the year 2010-2011 to Standing Committee Chairman Chandragupt Ghaag. The budget does not have any increment in the tax rates this year. Capital works has been given more priority in the budget. Thane Municipal Commissioner Nandkumar Jantre informed about the completion of various ambitious projects of the corporation that includes construction of science centre, museum, auditorium, sports complex, club house and others. He also accepted Municipal Corporation’s failure in acquiring adequate revenue due to non-functioning of water and road departments. The opening balance of current year’s budget is 1.83 crores whereas the octroi received is 424 crores, property tax received is 192 crores, water supply Rs 80 crores, development charges Rs 85 crores, other tax fees Rs 95 crores, donations rupees 233 crores and other accumulated amount includes rupees 17 crores. The Expected income and tender budget are the specialties of this budget. The education committee of TMC too has announced its budget of rupees 78 crores, 26 lakhs, 21 thousand. There are 128 schools running under TMC in which 40000 students are studying. Chairman of the education committee Suresh Gada informed that a provision has been made for providing salaries to teachers of rupees 39 crore 96 lakhs 80 thousand and further amount of rupees 21 crores 16 lakhs is expected from the Government. The transport committee of TMC also presented its budget. The budget did not announce any increase in the amount of fares and a total budget of rupees 111.39 crores has been announced by the committee.
