TMC ALLOTS SPACE TO 35 DISABLED IN THANE

Thane-Disablity-3After a wait of five years, TMC kept its word of allotting pavement space to the disabled of Thane district and initiated the first step in which 35 disabled were allotted space. It was in the year 2003 that TMC had decided to allot pavement space to around 193-disabled living in Thane district. Paying no heed to its promises, it was only in the year 2006 that the corporation kept its word and initiated the first step in which 35 disabled were allotted space. However, 12 out of the 35 did not come forward, after which the Brihan Maharashtra Disabled Welfare Committee demanded to allot the same to the other disabled of the city. According to the guidelines of BMC, the stalls are rented out at Rs 70 with a deposit of Rs 500. Violating this, TMC is said to be collecting rent of Rs 150, 200 to 250 which also led to protest by the disabled. The TMC authorities have given the assurance that very soon, the next step of the allotments would also start. From Thane, Praveen Sonawane for NMTV News.
