Promoting eco-friendly Ganesh Utsav this year, artificial lakes have been constructed by Thane Municipal Corporation for visarjan of the idols without polluting the water. On the other hand, in terms of security, it has increased security forces during these times. The Thane district has two main ponds, the Masunda and Railadevi. While a large number of idols are brought here for visarjan already, TMC has appealed to the Ganesh mandals in Mumbai to not bring idols here for visarjan as it amounts to water pollution. There are 75 pandals in Zone 1, 125 pandals in Zone 2, 168 pandals in Zone 3, and 150 pandals in Zone 5. Keeping this huge number of Ganpati idols this year, TMC has made 10 new artificial lakes. On the other hand, Thane police have appealed to all Ganesh mandals to make their Ganesh mandals decorations which does not offend any caste or creed. Looking at the tense situation that has been prevailing in Mumbai, the Thane police has also appealed to the people to not panic on false rumors and to stay alert at all times.
