TO MEET FUTURE TRADE DEMANDS, APMC ALL SET TO DEVELOP A NEW MARKET ON 150 ACRE LAND AT URAN

apmc6APMC Market Committee has floated new plans of extension of the market services to meet the growing demands of the agricultural market. According to this new plan, a new extension of the present APMC market at Vashi will be developed at Uran spread over 150 acre land. The APMC Market was shifted from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai with the aim of better and bigger space and infrastructure to operate from for the market. Over the years the business and trade is Asia’s largest agriculture produce market committee has multiplied to such an extent that today the market sees a turnover of Rs. 80, 000 Crore with 5000 vehicles plying in the market on a daily basis. At Vashi, the APMC houses separate wings for fruits, vegetables, onion-potato and spices. However, the business and trade is touching such heights that the present 75 acre area is leading to constraints and space is becoming insufficient by the day. In order to meet the growing demand of the industry and ensure increased profits, the APMC had applied for land to CIDCO. However, since CIDCO has no place close to Vashi, the city makers have earmarked 175 acres land Uran close to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust. The Secretary of the APMC gave us an insight on the same. While the new land will give a new lease of life to APMC operations, the proximity of the new wing of the market with JNPT also promises to boost business for the committee in terms of import – export.
