TO THE RELIEF OF LOCALS, NMMC GENERAL BODY APPROVES ROAD CONCRETIZATION WORK AT SECTOR 18, TURBHE

turbe-6The NMMC general body has approved the estimated cost of incomplete concretization of the roads in sector 18, Turbhe of Rs 2.56 crores. Locals in the area have expressed an immediate need to repair the roads. The locals and vehicle drivers at sector 18 Turbhe are daily hassled due to the unfinished concretization work of roads. The truck drivers complain that the work which was started 4 months back to concretize the road is left incomplete making it practically impossible for two trucks to move at a time. One side of the road is concretized and the other is left incomplete. The one way road has also become a cause of traffic jams. It may come as a relief to the locals as NMMC General Body has approved an estimated cost of RS 2.56 crores for the unfinished work. However, the Administrative approval for the said work was for Rs 5.36 crores initially and the said work is now estimated to cost Rs7.92 crores. As per the municipal commissioners proposal the said increase is due to changes in the work which is in progress as per the survey of the technical advisor and design prepared by the IIT , Mumbai. The said work is being executed by G.L Construction. However the estimated cost of a tendered work escalating from about Rs 5 crores to nearly rs 8 Crores indicates a major goof-up in arriving at estimated costs without consulting the design experts and technical advisor.
