The new shoptainment has taken the city by storm and has also brought along traffic woes. With most malls-cum-multiplexes in the city failing to provide adequate parking space, the Navi Mumbai traffic department has slapped notices to those malls not providing adequate parking space for its visiting customers. Visiting a mall, a multiplex or a super market in Navi Mumbai has become a trauma of sorts for vehicle owners. Finding parking space, especially on weekends, is about as easy as locating a needle in the haystack. With at least half a dozen malls coming up in the already congested Palm Beach road and over two dozens commercial buildings at Vashi railway station area, motorists are unable to negotiate traffic as they try to find parking space. None of the malls have made arrangements for parking of more than 350 cars, though most of them claim that these are expecting footfalls of 5,000-6,000 persons on normal days and 12,000 on weekends. Taking action against such malls, the Navi Mumbai Traffic Police has slapped notices against parking violations. The department has threatened to initiate criminal action if the mall and multiplex owners disobey the warnings. With cameraperson Raju Sharma, Anil More for NMTV News.
