nair-hosp-1For a city that has only 37, 369 beds for its ever-growing population and that hasn’t had a new public hospital in decades, the inauguration of a new building at Nair Hospital provided much relief to the residents. The inauguration was done at the hands of Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackarey. The new, nine-storey structure at Nair hospital boasts of 471 new beds. This is likely to bring much relief to the residents as the last hospital built by MCGM was in 1998. This was followed by an eight-bed expansion at Borivli’s Bhagwati Hospital. The inauguration of the new structure at Nair hospital was done at the hands of Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackarey. Admitting that “much improvement was needed” in healthcare delivery, additional civic commissioner Kishore Gajbhiye said the development at Nair Hospital was the first step in that direction. Nearly 32,900 sq m of space is meant for patient services while 14,100 sq m will have a hostel for resident doctors. The total number of beds at Nair Hospital have increased to 1,700. The building will house 13 operation theatres and have newer super-specialities such as cardiac surgery, nephrology and neurology. Apart from this, the hospital will also feature a school for autistic children-ADI (autistic dynamic interventions). we also spoke with the Dean of the hospital Sanjay Oak about the improvements made in the hospital.
