The proposal for increasing cess collection for the year 2008-2009 was also put forth at the NMMC Standing Committee which was however stalled till the next meet for further study. During the standing meet, the proposal for increasing cess collection for the year 2008-09 was put forth which was highly denounced by corporator Ramakant Mhtare. Opposing the proposal, he said that NCP Navi Mumbai Supremo Ganesh Naik had promised Navi Mumbaikars that there will be no increase in cess, water tax or property taxes if they were elected to power – that too for the next 20 years. Then how was the administration presenting the proposal to increase cess in the city to the standing committee. However, NMMC Standing Committee Chairman, Sandeep Naik did not reject the proposal outright but chose to give members a week’s time to study it. Will the NCP give in to the pressure of the NMMC administration and break away from their election promise or not is a definite wait and watch.
