UPDATES FROM THANE IN “SNIPPETS”

RALLY BY CRY A rally was taken out by the NGO ‘CRY’ against child labor. The rally also marked the 80 years completion of the Dandi Yatra taken out by the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi. The participants held banners and placards with messages against child labor. Skits and Video show also marked the day’s events. POLICE ARREST WAREHOUSE DACOITS The Thane rural police have arrested a gang of dacoits involved in looting warehouses. The department seized Rs 10,00,000 from them. The police has also arrested the shopkeeper, who was allegedly buying stolen goods from these dacoits. Super stone electronics and Cybax Infocom companies have their warehouses located at Navhar taluka in Vasai. In 2009, a team of dacoits had looted LCD, DVD, and laptop worth Rs 9,62,890. That time, the police had arrested 6 burglars, however had failed to acquire the stolen material. SHRAM JEEVI SANGHATNA PROTEST The members of the Shram Jeevi Sanghatna have been demanding that the 53 villages falling under the Vasai Municipal Corporation should be removed from its jurisdiction. The hunger strike held by the association’s founder MLA Vivek Pandit for their demand however went worse when the police started lathi charge on them. Protesting the lathi charge, the association later took out a massive morcha to the Thane Collector office. The crowd was so huge that the Tembi naka till the Jambali naka was full of the protestors.
