nmmc-standing-committee-6The recent NMMC Standing committee meet saw heated discussions over the excessive usage of water by consumers adding on to the already prevalent issue of water shortage in the city. Hence, NMMC has decided to take strict action against those using water more than required. Explaining the intricacy of the matter, NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata stated that under the national policy, 150 litres of water was allotted to them but the number consumed was 200 litres spelling loss for the corporation. After the NMMC commissioner’s explanation and the demands of the members, action against consumers for excessive usage of water was taken but due to the incomplete report submitted, the approval has been stalled till the next Standing meet. MIDC has cut down water supply by 20% resulting inconvenience for the residents. Had NMMC taken the issue of excessive usage of water as priority initially then neither the proposal would have been put forth in the Standing meet nor would it be pending for details.
