Festivities during the Navratri celebration are many and one location that is definitely not a miss is the celebration held by the navi Mumbai Bengali association. The nine days and nights of Navratri are dedicated to Mother Goddess. While the festival involves strict vegetarian diet and fasts it is also a festival of dandiya and garba. Navi Mumbai Bengali Association has for the 30th year celebrated this festival with fervor and gusto in the city. The last four days of the festival are most important for them. People worship pre-pubescent young girls, known as ‘kanyas’, as the embodiments of Goddess Durga. The durga festival also brings the Bengali community closer by way of its cultural events and programs. The Vice President of New Bombay Bengali Association Subrata Nayak said that the festival defines the triumph of good over evil.
