WE DO NOT WANT SHANGHAI, JUST BASIC NECESSITIES OF LIFE – SAYS LOCALS OF AXZAD MUHALLAH AT VADALA

azaad-mohalla-5The residents of Azad Muhalla in Vadala East are so frustrated due to lack of basic amenities that they do not want Shanghai but the basic amenties of life. Looking at the picture, one can understand the grim situation in which the residents of Azad Muhalla in Vadala live in. Mumbai city has thousands of swings for children but look at this swing of the area. Looking at it one can understand how the city is not even on the path of becoming a Shanghai city. Looking at the kids play in the messy and dirty water indicates that either the crores of rupees allotted in the name of development work are somewhere filling the coffers of corruptors or lost in the rich colony. The lack of basic necessities provided to these children has become an obstacle not just in their education but play life. One can assume the future these poor children will hold. There is open air defecation as the area also does not have any provision for toilets. The residents are also forced to use the contaminated water coming from the taps. There is reason why locals say, we don’t want Shanghai but basic amenities. Ironically the cash rich BMC has plans for Australian like garden in Poonam Nagar and Rs. 1100 crores allocated as education budget, but for Azad Muhallah – not even a primary municipal school has been built. Only authiorties and leaders have answers to these questions. From Wadala, with cameraperson Abhay Prasad, Rajeev Mishra for NMTV News.
