The NMMC had approved a 100 beds hospital in Airoli in the year 2009 and the Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik had performed the bhumipujan ceremony. However, the contractor has been doing work at a very slow pace that irked the NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Anant Sutar and Health Committee Chairman Shivram Patil. While both voiced disappointment at the speed of work, the big question is will the contractor be held responsible for the same else “Who is responsible for the delay of the 100 beds hospital in Airoli?” The NMMC Stsnding Committee approved two most awaited proposals of constructing 100 beds Mother Child Care Hospitals in Airoli and Nerul in the NMMC Standing Committee of August 2009 at a cost of nearly Rs. 70 lacs, Four days later Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik performed the bhumipujan ceremony of both the hospitals. The work for constructing both the hospitals has been awarded to Supreme Infrastructure India Ltd. The 100 beds Mother – Child Care Hospital in Sector 3, Airoli was to be built in 20 months time at a cost of Rs. 34 Crores 69 lacs 15 thousand 455. However, a recent visit to the construction site of the hospital by Standing Committee Chairman Anant Sutar and Health Committee Chairman Shivram Patil exposed that the contractor might just fail to meet the deadline of the project as the construction work is going on at a snail speed at the site. Though 19 months are over from the day of bhumipujan, the work has reached only the plinth level when it should have atleast reached up to the 2nd floor. Anant Sutar and Shivram Patil also visited the private hospital in Airoli where NMMC has made temporary arrangements for treating poor patients until the new 100 beds hospital is not constructed. After the visit, Chairman Anant Sutar voiced disappointment at the slow speed of work at the site. He said that if the contractor fails to meet the deadline of the project, they will cancel his contract. Shivram Patil on the other hand, blamed the administration for the slow work. He added that they will have no option but to extend the construction period given to the contractor.
