footh-path-1The residents of sector 17 Vashi are hassled due to the fallen footpath slab during the fixing of a water pipeline leak by NMMC. While the work has been completed the slab is yet to be fixed. Residents are having a tough time while moving along the footpath in sector-17 after the footpath slab collapsed when the water pipeline work was in progress. Civic officials were plugging the water leak from the pipeline in Shivaji Chowk when the slab collapsed four days back. While the work was completed on the same day the status of the footpath slab is still the same. It is reported that the footpath slabs are very old and were constructed by CIDCO around two decades ago. With time, the iron structure in them has rusted and when the digging started the slab collapsed. However, the NMMC has failed to fix the footpath slab despite a week to the incident. Meanwhile, the residents are facing huge inconvenience who say that it has become tough for them to walk along the streets. The eating outlets in the vicinity are also affected at customers are inconvenienced. The only hope that the residents have expressed now is that the corporation should speed up the process considering that the area is crowded and a large number of people pass through the sector. The Vashi bus depot and its nearby areas has always reeled under pathetic condition and time and again NMMC has spent lakhs of rupees on the maintenance and repair work of the depot and its adjoining areas. Not to forget that crores have been spent for the beautification of Shivaji Chowk. In the midst of all this, if a pavement collapses in such a congested area, then it will be a wait and watch whether NMMC enquires when was the work done last on this pavement and penalize its contactor for sub–standard work. It would also be a wait and watch to se if the corporation will take up the matter with the administration. With bureau inputs, Nisha for NMTV News.
