With eye on 2017 civic polls, Sena to launch protest against Smart City?

It is being reportedly said that very soon the Shiv Sena party is going to launch a drive against the BJP government’s Smart city project. Sources inform that this would be one of the agendas of the upcoming 2017 civic polls. The protest is slated to begin after the winter session of the state assembly ends in Nagpur.

The BJP government announced the smart city plan for Lower Parel which is being opposed by the Shiv Sena party. “The smart city project will rob Lower Parel of its local flavour and culture. We don’t want insensate growth of faceless malls and multistoreyed apartments in the area,” said Satish Rane, a Sena worker.

Earlier, Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackerey had criticised the Centre for flagging off the “elitist” Smart City plan, while ignoring the state’s parched regions. “It is wrong to talk of the Smart City project when Vidarbha farmers are ending their lives. When it comes to fighting for the cause of the poor, Shiv Sena will perform the Opposition’s role in the government even if the party is in power,” he said.
