Farmers across the city are protesting the state’s policy regarding SEZ. The agitation of the farmers against SEZ and Videocon deal was seen when they took to streets to protest against the unfair deal of 250 acre of land. A grand morcha was taken by PWP party, RPI and the Marxist Communist Party against this. From the time the state has brought in the Mahamumbai SEZ and announced the deal with Videocon, many political sects are holding protest against it. This morcha is against the land given to Videocon and looking at the numbers of political leaders in this morcha shows the increasing agitation of the political parties against this. The rally was to commence at CIDCO Bhavan but since permission from the police department was not received, the rally ended near Kharghar’s Bharati Vidhyapeeth School. Critising the government, the political leaders stated that they would not let this deal take form. After the rally, one delegation met with the Managing Director of CIDCO and put forth their protest. Speaking to the media, MLC Jayant Patil and Vivek Patil called the deal entirely illegal. Managing Director G S Gill stated that he has accepted the appeal letter given to them and that they would be forwarding it to the state government. When G S Gill was asked about the market value of the land given to Videocon, he gave did not give a clear cut answer. Looking at the massive protest that the Videocon deal has been seeing, it won’t come as a surprise if it too would intensify like the Singur deal.
