`A woman driver at Juinagar has alleged harassment by the jeep drivers stationed in the same area from where she operates. Despite lodging a compliant with the Nerul police station, no action has been taken against the threats she has been receiving.
Sunita Tapse, journey from a rickshaw driver to a Qualis driver in itself speaks of the struggles that she must have gone through to enter a profession that is ruled by males. However, far from appreciation, it is harassment that she alleges is being done with her, that too by the jeep drivers of Juinagar railway station, that is the venue from where Sunita Tapse operates from. Sunita Tapse takes passengers from Juinagar Railway station to Uran Township. However, ever since she has become a Qualis driver she has been facing many problems that has aggravated off late. According to Sunita, the drivers of the jeep have threatened her to shut business and when she refused she was allegedly physically assaulted. She narrated the same to NMTV News. Sunita said that on two occasion she was ill treated. Things went out of hand when allegedly last Saturday she was physically assaulted for refusing to give into the threats of the jeep drivers.
After being physically assaulted Sunita lodged a complaint with the Nerul police station but the action against the jeep drivers is yet to be taken. It was a very bold decision of Sunita Tapse to give up driving a rickshaw and take the challenge of driving a Qualis. However it is really unfortunate that despite allegations of such grave mental harassment and physical assault there is no one to address the woes of Sunita Tapse. Now it remains to be seen whether the so called women leaders of the city and NGOs working for women take up the case of Sunita Tapse and ensure that she is not meted with injustice.
