World condemns the ‘heinous’ terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims

Western powers, including the United States, France, Germany and some of India’s neighbours, including Bangladesh and Nepal, condemned the attack.

Germany said it resolutely stands by India in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

France said that in the face of terrorism, it stands in solidarity with the people and authorities of India.

US Chargé d’Affaires MaryKay Carlson tweeted, “We deplore the attack on #Amarnath pilgrims & condemn all acts of terrorism. Deepest condolences to the families & all those affected.”

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, condemning the “heinous” terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims and reaffirming her country’s support to India at this “difficult hour”.

She said, “Bangladesh maintains ‘zero tolerance’ policy against terrorism and violent extremism in all forms and manifestations, and condemns such heinous acts…As a close friend and neighbour we would continue to work together in our common endeavour to eradicate this menace from this region and beyond.”

Nepal’s foreign affairs ministry also reportedly strongly condemned the terrorist attack and expressed its condolences.

German ambassador Martin Ney said, “On behalf of the Government of Germany, I strongly condemn yesterday’s terrorist attack in J&K. Seven Amarnath yatris lost their lives and more than a dozen were wounded. I convey our deepest condolences to the families of victims. Germany resolutely stands by India in the fight against terrorism and extremism. As the G20 leaders just reaffirmed in Hamburg, we are resolved to tackle terrorism as a common challenge to the global community.”

France said, “France condemns the attack that on 10th July claimed the lives of several pilgrims who were travelling to the Amarnath shrine. We convey our condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. France assures the people and authorities of India of its solidarity in face of terrorism. During their meeting in Paris on 3rd June this year, the President of the French Republic and the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, had declared counter-terrorism to be a priority of our strategic partnership.”
